The jury’s motivation: These past years have seen several initiatives aimed towards rediscovering the forgotten plays of the last century’s woman playwrights. These projects include Modärna kvinnor (Modern women at Stockholm Stadsteater) and Spets (Lace at Riksteatern, Östgötateatern. With Räddad (Saved), from the Spets project, director Jenny Andreasson proves that it is possible to take an old play and produce it today, without any attempt at modernization, not even of the language. The subject of gender equality is as current as it ever was and the production of these plays is, therefore, never merely a project for a theatre museum, but a living and highly contemporary duty – defying any possible allergic reaction from audiences sensitive to dust.

This violent melodrama describes the way out of a marriage. The future looks bleak for Viola. She’s locked in a relationship long devoid of love, and these past six months has seen her mother in law installed in the household. Her restless husband, Oskar, escapes through champagne adventures on the town but poses a new threat when he decides that his own mother, better then Viola, knows how to bring up their beloved son. A visit from Uncle Milde, bringing Viola a secret gift, coincides with an event that might destroy Oskar completely. The balance of power is upset and the game can begin.
