Tre systrar (Three Sisters)
Stockholms stadsteater
Will not be performed at the Biennial.
The jury’s motivation: Director Alexander Mörk-Eidem has, with a large and lively ensemble, succeeded in producing a Checkov that actually feels reborn in it’s Northern provinces, 1970’s environment. It’s a production that accelerates through its contemporary touch, black humor, and impeccable timing but still manages to capture the intimacy in Chekhov’s sad love for humanity. It is wonderful to witness and generates strong feelings that sear the soul. That longing! Everyone’s eternal longing! It’s simply one of those productions that show that while some classics might be ancient, they are never old.

Ulla, Maja and Irene are pretty. They are talented, funny and clever. So what are they waiting for? For something to happen. For life to begin. Preferably somewhere else, somewhere without so many mosquitoes and where they can make some use of their Italian. And while they wait, they talk.
