The jury’s motivation: A luminescent, crazy, poetic performance for all ages, fantastic and perfectly pitched to the tune of Barbro Lindgren’s books through Lars Rudolfsson’s lyrical direction. Well worn, eccentric and much loved are the toys inhabiting Barnhan’s sand land. It’s their very own universe and here they live, die sometimes and do lots of other little things in between. Its part relationship drama, part visual art and part philosophy, aimed towards any person over the age of seven whom, like the figures in Sand land, ever wonder what we’re doing here.

It’s just a short hop to Barnhan’s land. You go out of the house, down the gravel path, through the gate, past the lilac hedge, and quickly through the hole – and look – you’re there! Already on the gravel path, if you listen carefully, you can hear Muskrat’s whining and the thumps from Marble’s hard little body. Mack is trimming his motorbike in the sand dunes and Nök is lying forgotten behind Ellen’s pine. Outside the cardboard schoolhouse The Red One and Uncle Teddy are discussing life and playing Teddybeethoven, that is, when they aren’t rehearsing Nökhamlet with a mad cork (probably the last one in the world) as Ophelia.
